Beginner route

Prehistoric Farm Beginner Guide: Raise a First Creature

Make one dinosaur the opening goal. The starter route connects a Cambrian creature’s fossil set, Dr. Ivy’s egg exchange and a hatch that needs care. Learn that chain before spending on several later systems at once.

First useful milestone A creature has hatched from your completed set and has compatible food to keep growing.

Continue from the step you reachedIf the set is ready, return to the lab. If an egg is already acquired, move to incubation. More digging is useful when pieces are missing, rather than as the answer to every delay.

  1. Finish the opening tutorial

    When starting the ranch

    • Complete the 16 tutorial steps to learn the service and tool context. The documented completion reward is 250 coins.
    • Use the starter Wooden Shovel on Cambrian: hold the digging input and release in green for a better find.
  2. Bring one complete set to Dr. Ivy

    While gathering the first creature

    • Track five Cambrian fossils belonging to one creature. Other creatures’ pieces advance different sets.
    • Return to the DNA Lab on Home Island and use Get Egg for the completed creature.
  3. Start the hatch and care for its result

When an egg is ready to place

    • Place the egg in an unlocked incubator and follow its actual timer. Two slots start available.
    • After hatching, provide compatible food and keep Belly above half full. On keyboard, put food in the hotbar, approach the ranch creature and press F.
Choose a manageable next goal

Keep the first trip focused on one ready set. Boat upgrades and side activities become easier to assess once you understand what the home services actually do.

Prepare the right experience and group

Use Prehistoric Farm by Project Mirvy rather than another prehistoric game or a similarly named community. The exact code-entry location is unresolved, so follow the live interface instead of a guessed Settings path. Keep the copied string intact and inspect the result before assuming an item arrived.

Editorial equipment ranking

Prehistoric Farm Tier List: Shovels by Period Coverage and Luck

Choose a shovel for the fossil period you want to dig. These grades put documented period coverage and Fossil Luck first, then the coin multiplier. They do not rank boat access, combat damage or a guaranteed rare-find rate.

Editorial rankingOne digging progression scope

Compare the five named tools using their supported periods and listed attributes. A higher grade describes wider coverage and stronger multipliers; it is not an instruction for every beginner to skip affordable tools or buy the most expensive one.

  • Supported fossil periods
  • Listed Fossil Luck
  • Listed coin multiplier
GradeShovelWhat the tool offersWhen it fits your goal
S
Titanium ShovelThrough Cretaceous
What the tool offers
  • Supports all five listed periods.
  • 1.40× Fossil Luck; 1.30× coin multiplier.
When it fits your goal

Consider Titanium for Cretaceous digging when its actual offer fits your budget. Check the site requirement and keep care resources; wider coverage does not guarantee the next fossil.

A
Iron ShovelThrough Jurassic
What the tool offers
  • Adds Jurassic to the earlier periods.
  • 1.20× Fossil Luck; 1.15× coins.
When it fits your goal

For a Jurassic goal, compare Iron’s required offer before paying for a later period you are not using. The documented 50,000-coin price still leaves material requirements to check.

B
Silver ShovelThrough Triassic
What the tool offers
  • Adds Triassic digging support.
  • 1.10× for Luck and coins.
When it fits your goal

When the site needs Silver, check its live price. Recorded costs conflict, so use the actual offer rather than one copied budget figure.

C
Bronze ShovelCambrian and Devonian
What the tool offers
  • Adds Devonian to the starter period.
  • 1.05× for Luck and coins.
When it fits your goal

Choose Bronze when Devonian digging is the next task and its live requirements are affordable. Conflicting price observations remain unresolved.

C
Wooden ShovelCambrian starter
What the tool offers
  • Already supports the opening fossil destination.
  • 1.00× Luck and coins.
When it fits your goal

Keep Wooden while finishing a first Cambrian set. A lower grade does not make a functioning starter useless; upgrade for an actual period or attribute need.

These are site-authored grades rather than official developer tiers.

Collection management

Prehistoric Farm Fossils: Finish a Set Before Selling

For a fossil inventory decision, protect the pieces of the creature you intend to extract. A large inventory is not the same as a complete set, and a count above the threshold does not prove how many pieces remain after Get Egg. Check the creature-specific requirement before deciding what is spare.

Read entries separately from required pieces

The collection menu lists 80 entries: Cambrian 6, Devonian 8, Triassic 20, Jurassic 20, Cretaceous 20 and Cretaceous Seas 6. Those figures describe creature or sea collection slots. They are not the number of fossil pieces needed by one egg. If you are choosing which set to finish, identify a creature inside the relevant period rather than using the menu total as its requirement.

The useful unitOne selected creature has its own count and extraction requirement.

Check the same creature on both sides of the count

Each Cambrian creature needs five fossils. An inventory with pieces for several creatures can be busy while no selected set is ready. If your goal is the next Trilobite egg, other creatures’ pieces advance their own collections. Keep the Trilobite pieces for that exchange instead of treating five mixed finds as one finished input.

Cambrian requirement
Five fossils for each of the six creatures.
Non-fossil finds
Coins and Buried Treasure are different digging results.
Ready for the chosen exchangeThe creature’s own count meets its displayed requirement.

Do not assume surplus survives extraction

Recorded inventories include Trilobite 9/5 and Wiwaxia 7/5, showing that a count can exceed the threshold. They do not establish leftover handling after Get Egg. My recommendation is to extract the intended ready set, inspect the resulting count and only then assess another egg or a sale. That avoids committing pieces on an unsupported assumption about carryover.

After the exchangeUse the new inventory count for the next decision rather than the earlier surplus.

Recognize an entry that calls for another activity

If the missing entry belongs to Cretaceous Seas, more fossil digging does not follow its documented acquisition activity. Choose the collection task before deciding which inventory to build.

Capacity planning

Prehistoric Farm Eggs: Plan Multiple Hatches

When Prehistoric Farm eggs are waiting, check capacity before buying an expansion. Two slots start unlocked and the room supports six. More slots let an additional egg occupy available capacity; they are not documented as shortening the timer of an egg already incubating. Decide whether the queue or the duration is the actual problem.

Make the capacity decision in order

  1. 1

    Use an available starting slot

Check the two unlocked slots before treating a full-looking room as a purchase requirement. If one is available, place the waiting egg there and start its displayed timer. You do not need to unlock the entire six-slot room for a single additional hatch.

No expansion neededThe acquired egg is incubating in an available unlocked slot.
  2. 2

Compare waiting with a real expansion need

If both available slots are occupied, read their actual timers and consider whether waiting for one hatch fits your next task. Approximate timers are Common one minute, Uncommon two minutes thirty seconds, Rare five, Epic ten and Legendary twenty. The short tutorial hatch is not the universal timer. A longer running egg can make capacity more relevant, but leaving for another activity does not accelerate it.

The constraint is identifiedYou know whether another slot or simply the current timer is what delays placement.
  3. 3

Check the specific slot offer and your reserve

Slot three is listed at 30,000 coins. Slot four is listed at 50,000 and requires slot three. Their costs support separate purchase decisions; requirements for five and six are unresolved. Compare the actual offered slot with a waiting egg and the coins you need for care or your next tool. Do not pay for unused capacity merely because the maximum is six.

An expansion has a purposeThe purchased capacity, if chosen, serves an actual waiting egg instead of a guessed timer bonus.
Ranch diagnosis

Prehistoric Farm Dinosaurs: Restart Stalled Growth

For a Prehistoric Farm dinosaur that seems stalled, check the creature’s Belly before changing equipment. The growth condition is over half full. A hatch timer, partner choice and a food purchase are different actions; only the actual care result shows whether that growth condition is being maintained.

The hatched creature is waiting with a low Belly

The dinosaur is already on the ranch, but its fullness is at or below the halfway point.

Possible causeIf Belly is not over half full, the official growth condition is not satisfied. Exactly-at-half behavior is unspecified, so relying on the boundary is not a useful care plan.

Restore fullness above half
Feed compatible food to this creature, then inspect its Belly. Keep the check on the animal whose growth is stalled, rather than assuming another dinosaur’s care covers the ranch.
Judge the result after feeding
If the condition is restored, reassess its stage over the relevant interval. If fullness is still low, check the food and feeding action rather than buying an unrelated tool.

You bought food but the creature still needs care

Food is in your inventory while the intended dinosaur’s Belly remains low.

Possible causeBuying food is preparation, not the feeding interaction. Diet compatibility also matters, so a cheaper incompatible item does not solve this creature’s need.

Use the documented ranch action
On keyboard, put compatible food in the hotbar, approach the dinosaur on the ranch and press F. Follow the actual interface on other devices; no translated controller button is established.
Check compatibility and fullness
Bramble’s Feed sells meat and vegetables. Meat-eaters can also use player-caught fish. Check the animal’s diet and Belly; no fixed restoration amount supports a guaranteed meal count.

You are comparing growth with the egg timer

The egg has hatched, but the creature has not become the later-stage animal you expected.

Possible causeIncubation and life-stage growth are separate. The stages are Newborn, Juvenile, Subadult, Adult and Elder, with approximate intervals varying by rarity.

Identify the current transition
Read the actual creature stage while maintaining care. Compare the next documented interval rather than expecting all growth to fit the completed egg timer. Missing rarity transitions cannot be filled with another creature’s times.
Travel comparison

Prehistoric Farm Boats: Match Speed, Handling, and Seats

Compare Prehistoric Farm boats by the trip you want to make. A price buys a particular set of travel attributes, and the larger boat does not improve every figure. Choose seats for the group you intend to carry, then compare speed and handling without turning either figure into a guaranteed journey time.

Banks Dory4,000 coins; rowboat14 kn top speed; 76% handling.3Consider the additional seat over Dinghy when that capacity matters. The listed speed also rises, but handling falls. Compare those tradeoffs before spending, rather than assuming the small price difference proves a particular island unlock.
Console Skiff60,000 coins; motorboat29 kn top speed; 96% handling.4Choose this comparison point for four seats and the highest listed handling among these boats. It costs much more than Banks Dory, so keep the trip need and care reserve in the decision. A handling percentage does not establish an exact turn radius.
DinghyStarter rowboat12 kn top speed; 88% handling.2Keep the starter for a trip that fits two seats while you learn the route. Its handling figure is higher than Banks Dory’s, so the first paid option is not an improvement in every dimension. Choose an upgrade for an actual seat or travel need.
Lobster Boat300,000 coins; motorboat37 kn top speed; 73% handling.6Consider the six-seat capacity and highest listed top speed when those are useful. Console Skiff retains the higher handling figure. Do not treat the largest offer as universally best or assume its price alone proves access to every fossil island.
Make the catch useful

Prehistoric Farm Fishing: Save Catches for Hungry Meat Eaters

A Prehistoric Farm fishing catch can serve ranch care: meat-eating dinosaurs can eat player-caught fish. Keep suitable catches when that is the need waiting at home. Fish, a rare fishing egg and a fossil piece are different results, so decide what the item actually does before selling or planning another collection trip.

A meat-eater needs food when you return

Compatible fish have a documented feeding use, so a catch is not merely another item to clear from inventory. My recommendation is to retain suitable fish for this animal before treating everything as spare. This follows the diet rule; it does not claim a fish restores the same amount of Belly as purchased meat.

  • Check that the dinosaur is a meat-eater, then use suitable player-caught fish for its feeding task.
  • Inspect Belly after the care action. Use its actual fullness rather than a guessed meals-per-fish schedule.

The hungry creature has another diet

Fish compatibility is documented for meat-eaters, not every dinosaur. If the animal needs different compatible food, holding a large fish inventory does not establish that its growth condition is covered. Bramble’s Feed offers meat and vegetables; select the food for the creature rather than the one that merely happens to be plentiful.

  • Identify the actual diet before choosing an item to feed.
  • Use the matching food and check the creature’s Belly; keep unrelated catches out of that nutrition assumption.

Your target is a Cretaceous Seas entry

The documented Cretaceous Seas collection contains six rare eggs obtained while fishing. Those are different from ordinary fish and Dig Site fossil sets. If that entry is the goal, distinguish the actual result of each cast before deciding a kept fish has completed the collection.

  • Read whether the attempt produced an ordinary fish, a collection egg or nothing.
  • Replenish bait when depleted. The listed offer is five coins for five casts; no fixed cast count guarantees an egg.
