Prehistoric Farm: How to Play the Fossil and Ranch Loop
Understand the Prehistoric Farm fossil-to-egg loop, dinosaur care, and the sea activities that extend your ranch adventure.
Prehistoric Farm connects two jobs: discovering creatures through fossils and raising them after hatching. The sea adds travel, fishing and cooperative activities, but the basic progression still begins with a shovel and a complete fossil set.
The longer gameplay video shows digging, returning to the fossil station, incubating eggs and fishing between tasks. Use it to see how the same home base connects the activities.
Turn island finds into a ranch creature
Dig at a fossil island, collect a full set for a creature, and bring it to Dr. Ivy's DNA Lab. The lab produces an egg from that completed set. An incubator warms the egg until it hatches. These are separate stages: collecting fossils does not directly place a grown dinosaur on your ranch.
A better dig begins with releasing the shovel meter in green. That timing belongs to the digging stage; it does not replace the need to finish the creature's set. Keeping those requirements separate makes the next action clear when progress feels slow.
Keep the hatched dinosaur growing
The official growth rule is Belly over half full. Feed compatible food and monitor fullness while the creature develops from Newborn toward later stages. An egg timer and a dinosaur's growth are different processes, so finishing incubation is not the end of care.
Once grown, a partner dinosaur can be ridden around the islands. Treat riding as a later use of your raised creature rather than the first action after obtaining an egg.
Pick a sea activity with a purpose
Boats carry you to fossil islands. Open-sea fishing and diving provide another exploration activity. The Sunken Grotto involves stealing sea reptile eggs, while the giant Mosasaurus is a cooperative spear encounter. Those activities share the sea without sharing one reward or input sequence.
For an opening route, use the beginner guide. If you know the loop already, tips and tricks helps arrange collection and care around the task that is actually waiting. You do not need to treat every side activity as a required step before raising a first dinosaur.
